Rising Temps Put Stress On Engine Oils

When you think about it, we demand a lot from our motor oil. For example, we all want better fuel economy, so we’re using lighter oils. However, we also want engines to produce more power per cubic inch. To add power, we’re putting in turbochargers which raise the engine temperatures and put higher stress on our oil.

That’s not the only stress. We value cleaner air, so new devices that reduce exhaust emissions place more contamination in the oil and increase engine temperatures. We’ve also cut aerodynamic drag, a plus for vehicle owners, but brutal on oil. By minimizing the air flow over the engine and drivetrain, temperatures also rise.

In fact, the average under-the-hood temperature has increased from 175 degrees Fahrenheit in 1975 to 225 degrees in 2000. Our vehicles are increasingly complex and powerful machines. To keep them running smoothly, we’re demanding that our lubricants do more and last longer.

That is why synthetic motor oils and drivetrain fluids have been increasing in market receptivity over the past two decades.

Off-road racing, record chasing on the Bonneville Salt Flats and events like the Diesel Power Challenge can teach a lot about the performance limits of lubricants.

AMSOIL Ea Air Filters’ synthetic nanofiber media removes five times more dust than traditional cellulose filter media alone and 50 times more dust than wet gauze filter media. AMSOIL Ea Air Filters provide superior efficiency, better air flow and more capacity, and they are cleanable for long life.

AMSOIL Ea Air Filters are guaranteed for 100,000 miles or four years, whichever comes first. They remain effective for 25,000 miles or one year before requiring cleaning.

The Ea By-Pass Oil Filter provides the best possible filtration protection against wear and oil degradation. Working in conjunction with the engine’s full-flow oil filter, the AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filter operates by filtering oil on a “partial-flow” basis. It draws approximately 10 percent of the oil pump’s capacity at any one time and traps the extremely small, wear-causing contaminants that full-flow filters can’t remove. The

AMSOIL Ea By-Pass Filter utilizes a new high-efficiency by-pass filter element that is also a soot removal device. These filters remove 39 percent of soot contaminants less than one micron. Soot removal efficiency increases approximately 10 to 14 percent when the Ea By-Pass Filter is used in conjunction with a standard full-flow filter.

The AMSOIL Dual Remote Oil Filtration System combines the AMSOIL Ea Oil Filter and the Ea By-Pass Filter on a single mount that may be placed anywhere space allows in the engine compartment, for ease of serviceability.

The dual remote system increases the circulating oil volume in the engine. That helps the oil stay cleaner and last longer, and it helps regulate engine temperature, which promotes engine life.

AMSOIL Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) exceeds the performance requirements for domestic and foreign automatic transmission fluid applications, providing excellent lubricating protection and better performance over a wider temperature range than conventional automatic transmission fluids.

AMSOIL ATF resists thermal and oxidative degradation longer than conventional transmission fluids, protecting components from damaging sludge and varnish deposits, preventing component overheating and ensuring cooler, smoother transmission operation.

AMSOIL ATF also offers substantially better cold temperature fluidity than required by current automatic transmission fluid specifications and provides easier starting, faster warm-ups, smoother shifting and improved fuel economy.

AMSOIL ATF provides smooth shifting and long, trouble-free transmission life for extended drain intervals. Transmissions usually operate under severe service conditions and are subjected to extensive idling, frequent short trips, cold temperature driving, sustained hot weather driving or trailer towing. When conventional transmission fluid is used under severe service, it should be changed every 15,000 to 30,000 miles. AMSOIL ATF can go longer with change intervals up to 50,000 miles.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic Gear Lubes are formulated with superior film strength and extra additives to protect gears and bearings from scoring and wear, and they effectively resist high heat and possess excellent cold flow properties. AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube is a highquality replacement for applications specifying SAE 80W-90 conventional gear lube. Its synthetic construction and high-quality additives provide improved cold flow properties, high viscosity index, heat resistance, excellent wear protection and long equipment life.

AMSOIL synthetic greases are formulated for component lubrication and protection in normal and highstress automotive conditions, such as high speeds, high temperatures, heavy loads and wet applications.

AMSOIL Engine Flush cleans engines and helps restore them to their original level of power and efficiency.

Engine Flush removes deposits from the engine crankcase, cylinder walls, pistons and rings. It cleans valves, valve lifters, rocker arms and pistons, improving power, fuel efficiency and performance. It also extends oil service life by removing deposits that contaminate the oil.

AMSOIL Performance Improver (P.I.) Gasoline Additive improves engine idle, response and starting. History of AMSOIL
As a jet fighter squadron commander Lieutenant Colonel Albert J. Amatuzio had ample opportunity to witness synthetic lubricants in action. These oils are used exclusively in jet engines because of three extraordinary performance characteristics: an ability to reduce friction and wear on engine components, an ability to function dependably at severe temperature extremes and an ability to withstand rigorous and lengthy engine operation without chemical breakdown.

By 1966 his newly formulated synthetic motor oil was being used in several vehicles, including a new 1966 Ford station wagon owned by his radar observer and closest friend, business owner Jack Arotta.
